Parlee McLaws LLP is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team working in Bankruptcy / Insolvency / Collections. This role is located at our downtown Edmonton office. The successful candidate is a self-starter with high attention to detail, a sense of urgency, and excellent organizational skills that effectively support busy practices. Key requirements: • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in bankruptcy, insolvency, and collections • Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program (equivalent experience may be considered) • Highly organized and pro-active approach to meeting deadlines while producing accurate quality work • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English with solid spelling and grammar skills (additional language skills are an asset) • Strong client service and relationship building skills • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, and Excel are key) as well as other software such as Worldox, Elite 3E, Remindex, SpeechExec, FoxIt, or similar programs • The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM (37.5 hours/week) Other requirements: • Experience with conducting searches (Motor Vehicle, PPR, Corporate, Land Titles); PPR certification is an asset • Experienced in the email protocols for e-filing of claims • Experience drafting pleadings, writs of enforcement, and letters for collections • Substantial reliability and adaptability accompanied by a professional demeanor and conduct • Keen attention to detail in producing accurate, high-quality work • Adaptability to changing priorities and effectiveness in a high-volume work environment • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills • Problem-solving skills with a pro-active mindset • A curious mind with the ability to learn quickly, retain knowledge, and effectively apply the learning • Understanding of basic accounting principles and experience with billing Compensation, Benefits, and Perks Compensation for this role aligns with the required experience.
