Angela Keuling is a registered Canadian and U.S. Patent Agent, as well as a registered Canadian Trademark Agent. She specializes in the drafting and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, and she has assisted clients in obtaining patent and trademark protection worldwide. Angela’s expertise extends to developing comprehensive IP strategies from initial concept to commercialization, leveraging her strong understanding of various techniques for protecting and deploying intellectual property.

With a PhD in Medical Genetics from the University of Alberta, Angela brings a robust technical foundation to her practice. Her research career was marked by numerous remarkable achievements, including over 25 academic awards and the publication of more than 15 scientific papers and abstracts. Angela’s work as a patent agent spans diverse fields such as biotechnology, medical devices, pulp and paper, clean technologies, oil and gas, and mechanical technologies, and she excels at handling multi-disciplinary inventions that incorporate technologies from multiple fields.

Prior to joining Parlee McLaws, Angela spent eight years in intellectual property management and licensing, working in roles across both industry and government. Her background includes positions at a biotechnology company, a small start-up, and Alberta Innovates-Technology Futures (now Alberta Innovates). Now, Angela caters to clients of all sizes, ranging from individual inventors, to start-ups, and large multinational corporations. Her extensive background enables her to develop and implement customized intellectual property strategies tailored to each client’s commercialization goals and budget. She is well-versed in available IP funding programs and has successfully worked with funding from ElevateIP, IRAP IP Assist, and the Alberta Innovates Micro-voucher.

Actively engaged in the Alberta start-up community, Angela participates in events and workshops for inventors and new businesses. She also volunteers with the University of Alberta Women in Science and Engineering (UA-WISE) mentorship program, dedicating her time to nurturing the next generation of innovators in Alberta.
