Experience

Talia passionately manages a very busy corporate commercial practice that she has been building at Parlee McLaws since she joined the firm in 2013.  Talia employs a keen depth of knowledge to assist her clients who operate in a wide array of industries and are at various stages of development (from conception of entrepreneurial start-ups all the way to national and international operations).

Talia’s practice includes significant real estate leasing work- drafting and negotiating all types of commercial, retail, industrial and office agreements for both Landlords and Tenants.  With depth of experience on both sides of the table, she efficiently identifies exposure areas and desirable terms, clearly explains risks and finds a creative middle ground to reach agreement between all parties involved. This arm of Talia’s practice also includes work on all aspects of retail, commercial and residential real estate acquisitions, dispositions and financings.

Transactional work is a large part of Talia’s practice and includes structuring, facilitating, negotiating, crafting and providing legal advice on major, and often contentious, share and asset acquisitions and dispositions, mergers and amalgamations.

She also assists her clients with properly structuring and organizing their corporations, partnerships and other business ventures. This includes initial advice on appropriate vehicles to achieve their goals, establishing suitable parameters and terms for their governing documents, drafting shareholder, partnership and joint venture agreements and providing legal and corporate governance advice.

Over the years, Talia has made herself an asset in the daily operations of her clients.  Talia has become a sounding board for complex issues, a final set of eyes on anything signed or binding, worked collaboratively to develop client specific document suites and terms of service that can be utilized in their daily business dealings and has assisted clients with drafting and negotiating a wide variety of corporate and commercial contracts.

When away from the office, Talia, a born and raised Calgarian, endeavors to be active outdoors no matter the weather- running, hiking, cycling, gardening and tennis in the warmer months and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the colder ones. She is also a very active volunteer in the community, with her volunteer pursuits focusing on education, homelessness, sports, and culture.
