Experience

Januel joined Parlee McLaws as a Summer Student in 2022 and became an Associate after completing his articles with the firm in 2025. Before his career in law, Januel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism with a minor in Sport Business Management from the University of Alberta. Januel attended law school in Kamloops, British Columbia and earned his Juris Doctor at Thompson Rivers University. During law school, Januel competed in the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition in San Diego, California, and was a quarter finalist in the Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada in Toronto. He was an avid volunteer for Pro Bono Students Canada and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers. Januel was also an active member of the TRU Law Golf Club, TRU Lawggers hockey team, and the inaugural recipient of the Jess Bray Memorial Award.

Januel practices in the areas of real estate, wills & estates, corporate, and business law. Januel represents and advises purchasers, sellers, lenders, and financial institutions in real estate transactions and works closely with realtors, mortgage brokers, and builders to ensure his clients receive optimal service in the sale and purchase of their property. He also works with landlords and tenants in the review and drafting of lease agreements.

Januel assists individuals, sole proprietors, non-profits, small businesses, and organizations in the incorporation process which includes the drafting of bylaws, articles, and minute book maintenance. Januel has experience in drafting unanimous shareholder agreements, share purchase agreements, and advising on the sale and purchase of businesses and board governance matters. He assists with general securities matters which include private placements and initial public offerings.

With respect to his wills & estates practice, Januel provides estate planning advice to his clients including the drafting of wills, powers of attorney, and personal directives as well as assisting executors and trust companies with grants of probate and administration. Januel also maintains a general litigation practice which includes insurance, subrogation, product liability, and estate matters.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Januel is a lifelong Oilers fan, enjoys the River Valley and the many festivals the city has to offer. Outside of the office, Januel enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering in the community, reading up on personal finance, and golfing.
