Experience

A thoughtful and empathetic civil litigator, Guy’s strategic and collaborative approach helps clients find practical solutions to complex problems.

Guy maintains a practice in insurance defence. His depth of experience started as an insurance adjuster investigating, adjusting, and settling a wide range of claims.  This experience has afforded him a unique perspective and understanding of what matters to clients, how to manage risk exposures, find practical solutions, and build lasting relationships.

In addition to providing legal opinions on insurance coverage, Guy has effectively resolved serious personal injury lawsuits, large property losses, CGL, condominium disputes, and pursued subrogation.  He has gained trial experience in the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and in the Alberta Court of Justice.

Guy also lends his skills to the practice of Wills and Estates litigation.   Guy understands that disputes involving validity of Wills, Trusts, legal capacity, conflicts with Power of Attorneys or personal representatives can be complex and can unearth profound emotions with family members.  As such, Guy approaches these matters with empathy, as he helps clients navigate the intricacies of estates litigation one step at a time.

Guy believes in resolving disputes by focusing on interests rather than positions following the teachings from his formal training on Alternative Disputes Resolution.  Guy has attended numerous mediations and Judicial Dipute Resolutions.

Guy routinely delivers training sessions on various insurance topics to help clients stay current with the law, assess, and manage risks appropriately.

Guy is regularly involved with pro-bono organizations addressing general inquiries from clients on issues ranging from contracts to Landlord and Tenant disputes.

Outside work, Guy is passionate about playing jazz on the drums.  He has performed at various international festivals including at The Yardbird Suite, Edmonton’s premier Jazz Venue.
