Kerry Day has over 35 years of experience as a business lawyer assisting private and public corporations, non-profit organizations, and government entities. She assists businesses to resolve legal challenges related to financial service needs, technology, outsourcing, employee matters, acquisition or divestiture of significant assets, construction of new operating facilities and office premises, development of new lines of businesses, regulatory compliance and internal governance. Kerry’s clients benefit from her ability to balance legal background and experience with sound business judgment and creative thinking, build strong client relationships, and deal effectively with regulatory authorities and industry participants.

Kerry returned to private practise in 2009 following a 14-year legal executive career in the telecommunications and financial services industries. As Vice President, Legal & Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer for ATB Financial, Kerry led a team in providing legal and strategic business advice and support for new business opportunities, building stronger customer, supplier, and employee relationships, construction of new and renovation of existing facilities, and enhanced operating efficiency and profitability. Responsibilities included compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, the adoption of corporate governance best practises, the mitigation of risk, the adoption of new technology, and the development and maintenance of productive relationships with government regulatory bodies and key suppliers.

Prior to joining ATB Financial in 2000, Kerry was the Vice President, Corporate Secretary of TELUS, providing corporate governance and legal support to the board of directors and senior executives. Prior to its merger with BC Tel Inc., Kerry held a number of senior legal positions with TELUS Corporation in Alberta. Before joining TELUS Corporation in 1994, she was a corporate commercial partner in another major Canadian law firm, where her practise included senior roles in relation to a number of major commercial real estate developments and large industrial projects.

Kerry has completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Partners, Directors and Officers Course offered by the Canadian Securities Institute. Kerry received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2006. She received ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors in June 2009.
