Jillanna is a litigation lawyer based out of Parlee McLaws’ Edmonton office. She maintains a broad practice that includes several different areas of civil litigation such as contractual disputes, commercial litigation, insurance litigation, administrative law, employment, and aboriginal law.

Jillanna has extensive trial experience and has sat as Second Chair on several long trials before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, not least of which included an eight-week trial involving an international commercial contract dispute and conspiracy; a six-week class action trial that centered around statutory interpretation, breach of contract, negligence and the violation of Charter rights; and a six-week trial relating to construction law, breach of contract and loss of revenue.

In addition to her appearances before the Court of Queen’s Bench, Jillanna has appeared before Alberta’s Provincial Court and provided written advocacy for her clients before the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Her insurance litigation practice includes both insurance defense and subrogation. Jillanna also represents clients in a wide range of regulatory matters including professional misconduct and equine racing tribunals. Further, she has experience drafting wills, personal directives and powers of attorney, as well as commercial leases and other agreements between both individuals and corporations.

During law school, Jillanna was elected as a representative for the Law Faculty Council, the Student Appeals Committee, VP Academic for the Law Students’ Association and Social Editor for Canons of Construction student newspaper. She was also an avid volunteer for Law Show and Student Legal Services. Volunteer work throughout the community continues to be important to her, especially for the Edmonton Food Bank and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Currently, Jillanna also serves as Secretary for the Young Lawyers branch of the Canadian Bar Association and volunteers for the Civil Claims Duty Counsel project.
