James, also a Chartered Professional Accountant, was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1993. Prior to his legal career, James was a senior manager at the Canada Revenue Agency in the Business Audit Division.

With over 25 years’ experience, James works closely with other accounting professionals and their clients to implement sophisticated tax planning. His focus is complex corporate transactions and personal planning (including estate planning). In addition, James represents clients at the Tax Court of Canada and was lead counsel in the 2009 Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench case, Stones Jewellery v. Arora, which dealt with rectification of tax errors. James has also appeared in Provincial Court, the Alberta Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, (Trial Division) and the Federal Court of Appeal, as well as before various administrative tribunals.

James contributes regularly to various tax publications, presents before accounting organizations, and guest lectures at the University of Calgary.
