Andrea grew up in Windsor, ON (lovingly known to many as “South Detroit”) and completed her BSc Honours Chemistry degree at the University of Windsor. Her love for chemistry drove her to head out West and complete a PhD at the University of Calgary. Over 10 years later, Andrea still gets excited when she has to draw molecular structures for a work product.

After grad school, Andrea decided to try her hand at a non-lab-based career and started working with companies filing for Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) investment tax credits; a great way to stay connected to science and technology development. After almost nine rewarding years, Andrea decided it was time to make a change resulting in some career path pivots. She first moved to a law firm as a patent agent trainee, and then joined the Technology Transfer Office at the University of Calgary.

While it was nice to be back on campus, Andrea started missing patent drafting and prosecution work. After finding out she successfully completed the patent agent qualifying exams on her first attempt, Andrea joined Parlee McLaws as a Registered Canadian Patent Agent in May 2022.

Outside of work, when she is not transporting her children to/from activities and play dates, you may find Andrea working out; watching the CFL, curling, and cooking shows; or pondering why her parents did not spell her name “Ondrea” if that is how they wanted it to be pronounced.

Andrea’s passion for science and technology is almost equal to her passion for coffee, so she’d love to sit down for a chat about what’s going on at your company.
