After years of studying, training and travelling Allan was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1995. He has applied his practice to all forms of business disputes with an emphasis on oil and gas litigation, trade secrets, product liability and sale of goods disputes. Allan’s experience includes appearances before every level of court in Alberta as well as numerous arbitrations and mediations. While it is sometimes necessary to take a dispute through to trial, Allan works with his clients to seek reasonable solutions through hard negotiation and mediation.

He has represented all sizes of oil and gas companies in cases where it was imperative that counsel had a comprehensive understanding of the technical aspects of the client’s case. For example, Allan’s cases required that he have a full appreciation of all of the technical aspects regarding the design, construction and operation of pipelines, drill rigs, drill mud systems, electric power substations, turbine engines, oil batteries, and gas processing plants. He has also represented clients involved in intellectual property disputes, including cases of alleged theft of intellectual property by competitors as well as former employees. This has lead Allan to appear before the Court of Queen’s Bench in a large number of applications for injunctions and Anton Piller Orders.

Allan has been the lead and second counsel in such recent cases as:

  • TransAlta Energy Corporation v. GE Packaged Power, Inc.
  • ATCO v. GE Canada Limited
  • Dominion Exploration Canada Limited v. Lloyds of London
  • CNRL v. Magna Engineering
