Parlee McLaws LLP is a well-established law firm with over 125 years of experience here in Alberta and we’re looking for an intermediate to senior level Legal Assistant to support our team as a Floater. The ideal candidate is adaptable, takes initiative and is customer service oriented. If you are a team player, thrive under pressure and have a high attention to detail, this role could be for you.

Position Overview:

• Conduct court searches
• Draft correspondence, court, and financing legal documents
• Prepare a variety of legal documents including briefs and factums
• Schedule various applications and questionings
• Manage incoming workflow from a team of lawyers/paralegal
• Calendar management including coordinating and scheduling meetings
• Preparation of accounts and time entry
• Generate reporting as required for clients
• General administrative tasks including office and file management
• Other tasks as required

Requirements:

• Previous experience with Wills & Estates is an asset
• Several years of previous law firm experience in a Legal Assistant role
• Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program
• Readily adapts to changing priorities and effectively works in a changing and high-volume work environment
• Highly reliable and possesses professional demeanor
• Understanding of basic accounting principles
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office programs
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Exhibits attention to detail and is committed to producing accurate and high-quality work
• Ability to organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines with a high degree of personal initiative
• Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
• Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
• Strong customer service and relationship building skills
• Possess problem solving skills with a proactive mindset
• Ability to collaborate within a team as well as achieve results individually
• Must speak, read, and write English fluently
