Parlee McLaws LLP requires a law librarian or senior library technician to manage our Calgary Library, and work in collaboration with the Library Manager of the firm’s Edmonton office.

Job description:

• Provides legal reference and research services to lawyers, articling students and staff
• Provides training on the library’s resources and services
• Conducts database training for articling students
• Responsible for the development and management of the Calgary library collection of print and electronic materials
• Prepares and administers the annual Calgary Library budget, and operates within its approved limits
• Creates and updates instructional materials
• Works with the Edmonton Library Manager to evaluate and develop the library’s in-house databases and intranet, and its policies and procedures

Qualifications:

• MLS or MLIS degree and recent law library experience, or a Library and Information Technology diploma with recent experience in a legal reference position
• Thorough knowledge of electronic and print legal materials, and legal research methodology
• Significant experience with WestlawNext Canada
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively
• Comfortable with Microsoft Office
• Familiarity with Inmagic’s DBTextworks and WebPublisher software is not essential, but would be an asset
