Parlee McLaws LLP is a well-established law firm with over 125 years of experience here in Alberta and we’re looking for a talented Legal Assistant to join our growing Intellectual Property team. We are also willing to consider part-time candidates who are working towards completion of their Legal Assistant/Paralegal education.

Position Overview:

• Manage incoming inquiries from prospective clients, including gathering pertinent information, advising of the file opening procedures, preparing for conflict searches, and preparing engagement letters as required
• Coordinate and schedule meetings for the assigned lawyers, complete travel arrangements, and arranging other professional activities as required
• Complete accounting related tasks such as preparation of invoices, corresponding with foreign associates regarding invoices, verifying accounts as well as handing trust transactions, cash receipts, retainers, and credit card payments
• Prepare expenses for reimbursement for the assigned lawyers
• Work within a team to attain results for the IP department
• Complete general administrative tasks including office and file management
• Other tasks as required

Requirements:

• Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program
• Understanding of basic accounting principles
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office programs
• Must speak, read, and write English fluently
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Exhibit attention to detail and is committed to producing accurate and high-quality work
• Ability to organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines with a high degree of personal initiative
• Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
• Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
• Strong customer service and relationship building skills
• Readily adapt to changing priorities and effectively work in a changing and high-volume work environment
• Possess problem solving skills with a proactive mindset
• Ability to collaborate within a team as well as achieve results individually
