Intellectual Property Assistant
Permanent Full-Time

Reporting to the Edmonton Intellectual Practice Group Leader(s), our Edmonton office is seeking an IP Assistant who will be responsible to provide legal and administration support, as follows:

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage patent docket including docket deadlines and maintain the integrity of docket data
  • Assist with preparing patent filings through CIPO, USPTO and WIPO
  • Review incoming correspondence from patent offices and foreign associates and assist in preparing client reporting letters
  • Follow-up with diarization for applications
  • Assist in transfer of files
  • File opening, invoicing and general file maintenance
  • Maintenance of foreign associate invoices and wire transfers
  • Payment of application fees in various patent offices
  • General administrative tasks including file management and precedent maintenance

Position Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant program
  • Minimum three (3) years of relative experience
    o An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • Experience communicating and filing with CIPO, USPTO and WIPO would be an asset
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Must speak, read and write English fluently
