Parlee McLaws LLP is a well-established law firm with over 125 years of experience here in Alberta and we’re looking for a Commercial Paralegal to join our Edmonton office. This position will be responsible to work with residential real estate, commercial real estate, and commercial lending files end to end under the supervision of the assigned lawyer(s). The ideal candidate can draw from several years of previous experience working with a variety of files in these practice areas and can take files to the next level both independently and in collaboration with lawyers on complex milestones. The hours for this position are 8AM – 4:30PM, Monday to Friday. There is an opportunity for this position to be worked partially remotely as one of many precautions taken by Parlee to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Position Overview:

  • Manage transactions including sales, purchases, refinances, and closings
  • Execute Land Title Office and Personal Property Registry registrations and filings
  • Prepare relative documents, often needing complex editing and formatting for correspondence and documents
  • Maintain an efficient file system (physical and electronic files) using strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Follow instructions with minimum supervision and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
  • Deliver exceptional service to internal and external clients
  • General administrative tasks including office and file management
  • Other tasks as required


  • 6 or more years of previous experience as a Paralegal in residential real estate, commercial real estate, and commercial lending
  • Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program
  • Highly reliable, adaptable, and possesses professional demeanor
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office programs and ability to work with document and file management software
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Exhibit consistent attention to detail and is committed to producing accurate and high-quality work
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines with a high degree of personal initiative
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
  • Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Strong client service focus and relationship building skills
  • Readily adapt to changing priorities and effectively work in a changing and high-volume work environment
  • Possess problem solving skills with a proactive mindset

  • Must speak, read, and write English fluently
